Reconnect With Someone
Mar 31, 2025
With traveling to see family, attending weekly speaker school classes, consulting with a tech company, and joining an alumni event, I’ve met a lot of new people recently. That’s always interesting. It is a unique opportunity to observe how people present themselves and uncover new ways of thinking. People have fascinating lives and jobs and interests. It feels inspirational to cross paths and learn new things.
I’ve also reconnected with colleagues who I’d lost touch with. Some saw posts about Boss at the Helm and reached out to ask what it's all about. One lady who I worked with for years said, "Let me be involved in any way at all. I just love you so much."
Now y'all, I've got very supportive family and friends. No doubt. They're patient and helpful. To have someone I hadn't talked with in 3 years reach out and make this statement. Woo, that's a big heart feel.
Then I also read, came across really, several references about nurturing relationships and, importantly, making the effort to reconnect with your former colleagues and friends as detailed in books by Dale Carnegie, Adam Grant, Keith Ferrazzi, Sheryl Sandberg, and more.
So, I started slowly reaching out to more people that I've lost touch with. And it's been incredibly uplifting. So many of you are making hard decisions and figuring out how to take the next, better step for you and your families. Several of you had health scares, many of you made your own career changes, changed your life and family, learned new things.
I encourage you. If someone's been on your mind, reach out to them. If you've lost touch with a friend who meant a lot, see what they're up to. Take a chance and go meet someone new. The energy from it is dynamic.
