What is your blind spot? What's the thing that you ignore about yourself? Maybe something people tell you about yourself all the time but you dismiss it or set it aside to deal with later. And later never comes.

Some common examples of blind spots:

  • Acting preferentially towards people you enjoy
  • Blaming others
  • Ignoring problems
  • Poor me and martyr tendances
  • Hogging the spotlight/ Stealing energy/ Being the loudest
  • Shrinking and playing small
  • Avoidance
  • Over confidence and know-it-all attitudes
  • Ignoring the quiet people in the room
  • Letting people take advantage of you

There are so many more. It's very likely that you have one or two that are prevalent and trip you up frequently in life and at work.

To know about your blind spots, you have to become self aware. That's the hardest part, so start there. Do your research. Do the work. The rest is easier.

It's very likely that someone else points out your blind spot to you. But you can also notice your own behaviors and tendencies. What do you overlook? Who do you avoid? When do you make yourself small or overreact?

To do something about your blind spots, you couple awareness with compassion and intention.

Notice the triggers and situations that tend to lead to your blind spot and your reaction.

Have compassion. Give yourself grace as you notice and begin to take action on and remove or manage your bind spot. You won't fully address it the first time you try. You will get caught off guard by it at some point.  You've built this up over time and it will take time to create new habits.  When you encounter it, thank your SELF for trying to be protective and trying to keep you safe. Then say, I've got this.

And move towards your intention. Take the actions you've decided are right for you and  move towards the behaviors, actions, thoughts that you chose to include in your life.
