Why Leaders Need Inspiration
Feb 17, 2025
You know what it's like to sit in a meeting that drags on.
Or to attend a Zoom call where you secretly have a game running in another window.
Or to lean against the counter in the shop and feel like the day is never going to end.
The daily tedium of work makes it challenging to motivate yourself, much less your team, to get the work done. How are you going to meet your quarterly goals when everyone is dragging with winter doldrums?
Inspiration is how.
And it's up to you to find your own inspiration.
Since you're the capital B Boss, it's also up to you to inspire your team and those around you.
How can you find inspiration? Start with paying attention to yourself and your environment. When do you perk up, lift your head, feel your heart swell? Whenever you do that, notice what is happening around you. Then indulge and seek out similar experiences that provide that light up feeling.
I shared on Instagram last week a story reel with images of art and nature that I'd come across while visiting the northeast for a training session. That inspiration included this restaurant in New Hope, PA, which was at one time a church and had the coolest vibe and artwork. I know that nature, art, and dynamic people are very inspirational to me. So, I seek them out.
I happened to be fortunate enough to attend a two-day training seminar where the instructors were non-stop inspiration and the other attendees had such incredible stories, vision, and accomplishments that you couldn't help but raise your own bar.
And when you feel that, you in turn share it with others around you. That's the part that makes you so Boss.
You look for opportunities to uplift and inspire your team with words, accolades, encouragement. You seek meaningful experiences for the team, you bring programs for learning and enrichment, you sponsor and mentor and you encourage others to share their inspiration, too.
